11 Roxton Rd, Heaton Chapel

This project involved the design of a side and rear extension to create a generous open-plan kitchen, living, and dining space, alongside a utility room and a ground-floor WC and shower room. The client brief required the new additions to remain in keeping with the original architectural character of the house, while also forming a seamless continuation of the neighbouring extension roof to ensure a cohesive and well-integrated overall appearance.

Project details

The existing house layout resulted in disjointed ground-floor spaces, with the galley kitchen isolated from the rear living area and an absence of adequate bathroom facilities to meet the family’s needs.

The client brief sought to address these issues by extending the ground floor to improve the overall layout and create a generous open-plan kitchen, dining, and family living space, alongside an adjacent utility room and a ground-floor WC and shower room.

The proposed design responds to the brief through the addition of a single-storey rear and side extension, combined with internal reconfiguration to deliver a spacious open-plan family room and a shower room accessed directly from the hallway.

Externally, the new extension is finished in brickwork to match the existing house, with roof tiles selected to complement both the brickwork and the original roof colour. The indented brick corner detailing to the front elevation has been replicated on the extension to further integrate the new and existing structures and maintain a cohesive architectural language.
